How to ensure stable supply of high quality ultrapure water?

Ultrapure water is used in laboratory and industry analysis as the most important detergent and solvent, whether in the preparation of medicines, the circuit chip manufacturing in semiconductor industry, production of solar cell, or nutrient medium, buffer solution and reagents used in the scientific research work. There is huge demand for ultrapure water. Only a steady supply of high quality ultrapure water can ensure high reproducibility of the results and high quality product.

Conductivity and resistivity at 25 ℃ are important quality judgment bases for ultrapure water.


In order to facilitate laboratory research and industrial production, some functional departments, such as ASTM (American society for materials and testing), CAP (American society of pathologists), ISO (international organization for standardization), and VDI (German society of engineers), have developed quality standards and specifications for water. Depending on the different levels of water purification, the water quality can be classified as four levels. The highest purity level is ultrapure (equivalent to type 1 water in ASTM and CAP). This water is used in chemical analysis, biomedical, and biochemical analysis for blank test and sample dilution during GC, HPLC, AAS, and icp-ms analysis, and is configured with HPLC mobile phase, nutrient medium in cell culture, buffer solution, and as solvent and cleaner.



The most important quality judgment parameters of ultrapure water are: conductivity or resistivity, amount of TOC (total organic carbon), particulate matter and number of bacteria. The maximum conductivity of ultrapure water at 25 ℃ is 0.1μS/cm, the resistivity is 18.2 M Ω , and the TOC content is 10 μg/ml, bacterial count is less than 5 CFU/ml. Ultrapure water system that with TOC measurements should monitor organic content in real time. For many bioanalytical applications, the ultrapure water must remain absolutely free of nucleases, DNA, endotoxins, and pyrogen. To ensure high purity of water, ultrapure water system uses different purification techniques, such as ion exchange, membrane separation, reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, electric deionization, and ultraviolet radiation, to meet the needs of personalized applications. The complete purification system integrates all the purification elements into a system that can be directly connected to the tap water pipeline, while other systems require the application of pre-purified water as the inlet water.
