Project Background
Customer Background Introduction:
Changsha Medical College is a full-time undergraduate medical institution with multiple medical related majors including clinical medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and medical laboratory technology. It has a large number of teaching laboratories and research platforms. The campus generates approximately 10 tons of laboratory wastewater per day, which presents the following characteristics and challenges:
1. Wastewater characteristics:
• Teaching wastewater has a special composition: it contains typical pollutants from medical teaching experiments such as simulated blood, iodine, formaldehyde, etc. It has the characteristics of high chromaticity, pathogen risk, and high concentration of organic pollutants.
• High concentration and low flow rate of scientific research wastewater: Scientific research laboratories produce low flow, high concentration waste liquids containing cell residues, trypsin, and organic solvents, with extremely high instantaneous pollutant concentrations.
• Complex and fluctuating water quality: Due to the different time patterns of teaching and research activities, the water quality and quantity fluctuate violently within a day, and traditional processes are prone to problems such as pipeline blockage and large sludge production.
• Strict treatment requirements: It must be treated on-site to meet the standards before being discharged into the campus sewage station for further treatment.
2. Core challenge:
• Difficulty in classification and treatment: Teaching wastewater and research wastewater have significant differences in properties and require different treatment processes.
• High anti blocking requirements: Simulating protein and fat containing substances such as blood and cell debris can easily cause blockages in pipelines and equipment.
• Sludge reduction demand: Traditional processes have high sludge production and high hazardous waste disposal costs.
• Limited land occupation: Renovation is required within the existing laboratory building, and equipment land occupation is limited.
